general information
The first of the two vocal collection albums, Pray, was released on xx month year. The album is comprised of various music from the first six Final Fantasy games accompanied by the voice of Risa Ohki in various languages — English, Japanese, French, and Portuguese.
Unfortunately, the album is out of print and is not available on the iTunes music store or the Square-Enix music store, so finding it isn't easy. If you possibly can, though, get a copy; it's a beautiful album.
The track listing is as follows:
- Prelude
- The Promised Land
- Mon P'tit Chat
- Wanderer of Time
- Into The Light
- Esperança Do Amor
- Voyage
- Au Palais de Verre
- Once You Meet Her
- Pray
- Não Chora Menina
further information on the songs
1. Prelude
Language: none
Song: Prelude
From: Final Fantasy IV
Notes: Although there's a "Prelude" track on almost every Final Fantasy OST, this particular song is based on the Final Fantasy IV version of it. This song has no words but rather a voice singing in tune with the music.
2. The Promised Land
Language: English
Song: Main Theme
From: Final Fantasy II
Notes: This song, like many on the album, may make you say "wait, this is from this game?" The lyrics don't have much to do with the game, but after a while it really doesn't matter because the song is just so great.
3. Mon P'tit Chat (My Little Cat)
Language: French
Song: Music Box
From: Final Fantasy V
Notes: The first song in French. I don't know the first thing about French and have never really cared for the language (and I'm not big on FFV music in general), but I still kinda like this song.
4. Wanderer of Time
Language: Japanese
Song: Terra
From: Final Fantasy VI
Notes: Terra is one of the best songs from Final Fantasy VI, and somehow this song makes it even better. It is my personal favorite song from both Vocal Collections and is just... stunning. The original music is quite evident (at least to me) and goes with her voice perfectly.
5. Into the Light
Language: Japanese
Song: Theme of Love
From: Final Fantasy IV
This song has been re-done about a half-dozen times, so it's quite easy to hear the original. I personally prefer this vocal version to the new one done for the DS version of Final Fantasy IV, but it's a matter of opinion.
6. Esperança Do Amor (Hope of Love)
Language: Portuguese
Song: Dear Friends
From: Final Fantasy V
Notes: The translation above is my best guess (I've studied Spanish, which is fairly close to Portguese, but that doesn't mean I have much of a clue here). I'm not big on FFV's music, like I said before, so I haven't much of an opinion on this song.
7. Voyage
Language: Japanese
Song: The Boundless Ocean
From: Final Fantasy III
Notes: Maybe it's just me, but the melody of this song makes me think of the sound of the ocean. And maybe it's not just me... XD
8. Au Palais de Verre
Language: French
Song: Matoya's Cavern
From: Final Fantasy I
Notes: I have no idea what the song name translates to. Nooot a clue. As a side note, this song sounds really different in every version I've heard of it.
9. Once You Meet Her
Language: English
Song: Elia, the Madien of Water
From: Final Fantasy III
Notes: Although the original song is the theme for a character, the lyrics of this song have little to do with said character.
10. Pray
Language: Japanese
Song: Opening Theme
From: Final Fantasy I
Notes: It took me forever to figure out what this song was based on; turns out it's the one in the opening of FFI.
11. Não Chora Menina (Don't Cry Little Girl)
Language: Portuguese
Song: Kids Run Through the City Corner
From: Final Fantasy VI
Notes: Of all the songs on this album, this one sounds the least like the original (to me, at least).
